a STAR WARS audio parody

*****EVERYTHING ELSE*****

Coruscant? is an audio parody of a scene from Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. The premise is that Coruscant? was an extended part of a scene in the movie, but the extended part was cut out. But it has now been restored here in all its glory. The scene in question takes place on the planet Naboo, when Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi are escorting Queen Amidala to her Royal Starship in order to go to Planet Coruscant. (Coruscant being the seat of government for the Galactic Republic.) When Qui-Gon tells a battle droid that they're going to Coruscant, the droid seems confused. Could it be because Qui-Gon mispronounced it? Obi-Wan thinks he mispronouced it, and hijinks ensue!

Jay Chipman had the idea for Coruscant? He says that he originally wanted it to be live-action, but then decided on making it audio-only. He finished the first draft of the script for it in the late summer of 2002. It went through two more drafts afterwards. Ted Millikan recorded his lines as Obi-Wan Kenobi on July 8 and 20 of 2003. Tracy Walters recorded his lines as Sio Bibble on July 9, 2003. Coruscant?'s trailer was released on approximately August 3, 2003, and Coruscant? itself was released on August 6, 2003.

The Naboo Pilot was originally supposed to pronounce "Coruscant" the same way that Obi-Wan does. But in the parody, Adam Bertocci, who played The Naboo Pilot, pronounced it in a way that neither Qui-Gon nor Obi-Wan did. Jay claims to have told Adam to pronounce it Obi-Wan's way. But Adam's mispronounciation of the mispronounciation actually turned out to work out for the better, because it makes for yet another funny way to say "Coruscant!"

For your reading pleasure, the scripts for both Coruscant? and its trailer are provided below. Jay wrote the script for Coruscant?, except for the small part in blue, which was written by Tracy. Tracy wrote the trailer and Jay did the voices for it. But don't read either script until you've LISTENED to both of the productions in the "Audio" section...you wouldn't want to get SPOILED, now, would you?

QUI-GON?

When Coruscant? was released, Jay and Tracy were considering the idea of making another Star Wars audio comedy and calling it Qui-Gon? Qui-Gon? would focus on the pronounciation of the word Qui-Gon, just as Coruscant? did with the word Coruscant. But a script was never written, and the production was never made. However, on a funny note, an April Fool's joke in 2007 on Coruscant?'s main page stated that Qui-Gon? was indeed going into production...and as a live-action production, no less!

JEDI KWAN LEEP

Also around the time of Coruscant? coming out, Dylan Kinney (who played Qui-Gon Jinn in Coruscant?) had the idea of yet another Star Wars audio comedy. It would have been a parody of Ti Kwan Leep, a comedy skit by a comedy troupe called The Frantics. Ti Kwan Leep was about a martial arts master and his students. Dylan wrote a parody script of this skit and called it Jedi Kwan Leep, with Yoda taking the place of the martial arts master. Dylan pitched the idea to Dramedy Productions, but no one was interested in doing it. However, the script still survives, and it is provided below.
